Aquaculture Development Center – Sevanapitiya

The Aquaculture Development Centre at Sevanapitiya, Welikanda in polonnaruwa District was started its operations in late 2019. This establishment was funded by “Pibidemu Polonnaruwa” Programme. It is situated around 240 km away from Colombo, and covers an extent of 8 ha. Gravity fed water supply line has been arranged from ZD canal to the centre.
The centre has breeding and rearing facilities for Indian Carps, Chinese Carps and Tilapia. At present, there are mud ponds, cement tanks and a hatchery at this centre. In addition laboratory facilities are also available at this centre. Details of the rearing facilities available in the Sevanapitiya Centre are given in the table.
